GreenReserves examines the challenges pastoralists and agropastoralists face in coordinating the use of pasture resources under uncertain climate conditions. Players choose how land in the grid is distributed across open grassland (which anyone can use), private grassland (which only specific players may use), and shared reserve (which any player may request to use, but must receive permission from all other players). Along the game, players engage members of a household to share the duties of grazing a herd across the space, and harvesting dry forage for use during dry periods when grass growth is slow. All activities take scarce time, so players must coordinate in order to provide effectively and keep their herd animals alive.
